Nischal Basnet is back with a bang!! Or is he not? After the overwhelming success of his directorial debut “Loot” in 2012, his second movie “Talakjung vs tulke” was a highly anticipated movie by the Nepali audiences.

The script, written by Khagendra Lamichhane, has been adapted from Chinese author Lu Xun’s novella The True Story of AhQ. Talakjung VS Tulke is a tragic comedy movie, a journey of Tulke who loses his identity and tries to get it back. The background of the movie is the conflict set during the decade-long Maoist insurgency. The subject didn’t seem something that everyone can easily blend into and although the movie does a good job in bringing funny moments in serious matters, it doesn’t justify the whole theme.

The film stars Khagendra Lamichhane in lead and Dayahang Rai, Richa Sharma, Shusanka Mainali, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Prakash Ghimire and more. Everyone does a good job for their role but one needs to highly appreciate the performance of Khagendra Lamichhane.  Kudos to him for making everyone in the theater laugh so much.  He was exceptionally brilliant! Seen only in the second half, Dahayang Rai does a good job for his role but not for the movie.

Dayahang Rai

The item song “ Nachana maiya” featuring Menuka Pradhan is definitely a hit! We could hear everyone humming the song even before the movie’s release. This of course is a song that everyone is going to cling unto after “Udreko choli”. Even during the movie, the song gave the audiences a good break.

The first half of the movie is pretty good compared to a disappointing second half. Some of the scenes are completely out of context and somehow the audiences get lost in between the title of the movie and the theme. The plot is not so strong and the movie could have been shorter too.  But don’t be disheartened, because the movie has a lot of comedy, good direction and good cinematography.
And for everyone who have gone and watched the movie, it must have been a different experience standing up for the national anthem in a movie hall!
